Whippet Double Muscling, also called Muscular Hypertrophy, Myostatin Deficiency, Double Muscling or Bully Whippet Syndrome, is an unusual muscular disorder found in the Whippet. Caused by a recessive mutation to the MSTN gene, Muscular Hypertrophy causes the development of unusually large and well-defined muscles, which has been dubbed the “bully” phenotype by Whippet breeders.
Caratteristiche cliniche
I Whippet "Bully" si distinguono facilmente per la loro muscolatura pesante, in particolare intorno alla parte superiore delle zampe e al collo. Alcuni cani affetti possono anche avere un morso eccessivo pronunciato. I cani portatori non hanno il fenotipo "bullo" completo, ma sono comunque più muscolosi dei cani non affetti.
A parte una tendenza ai crampi muscolari alla spalla e alla coscia, non ci sono rischi per la salute associati a questo fenotipo.
