Dogs affected by X-Linked Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disease (X-SCID) have a poorly functioning immune system. The disease is caused by a recessive X-linked mutation to the gene IL2RG. Because affected dogs are unable to produce a protein important for proper immune function, they are extremely susceptible to bacterial, viral and yeast infections. Even with treatment, affected pups usually die by 4 months of age.
This variant of the disorder is found in the Corgi. A related variant is found in the Basset Hound.
Caratteristiche cliniche
I cani affetti spesso mostrano sintomi intorno alle 6-8 settimane di età, tra cui incapacità di prosperare, diarrea, vomito intermittente e assenza di linfonodi palpabili. I cani affetti possono anche soffrire di infezioni respiratorie, della pelle, degli occhi o dell'orecchio. La vaccinazione dei cuccioli affetti con vaccini a virus vivo modificato può causare viremia e sintomi clinici.
